Did I do the right thing at mass this morning?

So it was a 7 15 am mass. Daily Mass. I was runing late (too much sleep). I walked in right when the priest was starting the Gospel reading.(pretty fast considering only 5 miniuts went by since the mass started). I quietly took my seat as best as I could (the altar is in the center of the chaple sooo it was extreemly obvoius i was late). anways, during comunion I just stayed in my seat to NOT to recieve…I wasent entirely sure if it would be okay to recieve considering that I missed the very begining when the priest forgave us of all of our venial sins and also I dident want to show disrespect considering that I just would have showed up, recived eucharist…and leave…like…did i do the right thing by NOT recieveing? I mean, God knows my intentions were right, in that i was trying NOT TO BE LATE…Im just wondering if what I did was right, or if it would have been alrigh to recieve…
 
In my heart it seems to me you are Blessed just going to mass that early!!! You were there for the Consecration and it seems all you would need to do is take a moment silently pray the Act of Contrition and if meeting all other requirements to receive the Eucharist (i.e fasting, free of mortal sin) you could participate. I am a cradle Catholic without theology study degrees etc. so if I am wrong I’d love to know.
God Bless and please pray for me to have diligence to get out of bed for 8:30 daily mass!

You didn’t do anything wrong by not receiving but it would have been perfectly OK to go to Communion.

The first time we receive in any given day can be under just about any circumstance: Mass, Liturgy of the Word with Communion, at the bedside of a friend or family member whether at home or in the hospital, etc.

How could it have been wrong? Is the only reason to go to mass, to receive communion? What about all the RCs who before Vatican II received so infrequently?

I dont get the modern RC idea of receiving as often as they do, sometimes more then once in a day, even daily seems a bit much, we must remember communion is not a “Grace pill”.
 
Well as far as I know, the Eucharist forgives venial sin. I could be wrong though. So you could have gotten it, but it’s no big deal that you stayed seated 🙂

Well next time don’t be late! There is no excuse for being late for Mass. If you were that late for work would you have not been docked?

Wow a little harsh. Did you see the time? She was at 7:15 Mass. Yes, it is not right to to be late to Mass, but at that hour I think Jesus would understand if you’re 5 minutes late.

Wow! How charitable.

She didn’t have to go to Mass and she struggled to get there in time but didn’t make it. I think she should be commended for making the effort instead of turning over and going back to sleep.

I agree. Take away communion and how many would even attend Mass today? Especially a DAILY Mass which, of course, is non-obligatory. In my opinion, the OP did well just by being there for a few minutes. A lot of times I’ll just go visit the Blessed Sacrament.

about the “Grace pill” thing…eeeeehhh yea I guess I kind of saw it that way…I mean i gues ive kind of feel like If i dont recieve the Eucharst everyday I feel awful and have ‘no life’ with in me…its like, missing a best friend… now i feel bad 😦

Ah, but it is a “grace pill.” Every time one receives, assuming the proper disposition, ones sanctifying grace increases. 👍

More than that, many of our recent Popes, especially St Pius X, made efforts to encourage the frequent attendance of Mass AND reception of Communion - both daily if possible. He had good reason to do so.

No, it is not wrong per se to not receive, unless one disobeys the Church precept which requires reception once a year. That being said, Jesus DID, and does at every Mass, invite ALL of us to take and eat and drink. So surely if one is in a state of grace and so able to accept His loving invitation it is greatly preferable to do so.
 
I am impressed that you got there…I am impressed by the 0530 hrs congregation where I live. I know our priests take a dim view of being late for Mass, on a regular basis, and the leaving before Mass is completed.

You erred on the side of caution…laudable in itself, but I think you could have received communion because God sees in your Heart…Blessed are the meek:)
