This is the explanation I gave about the Trinity, on another forum.
First of all, God is love. (1 John 4:8)
"God knows himself, every aspect about him. God knows himself so well, that this knowledge about himself makes an image of him. But since God is divine, this image of God, is also divine. It is not imaginary, but real. This divine image is called the Word.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
Notice that this Word was not “created”. He was with God in the beginning, and since he was an exact image of God, he was God too! Notice that although the Word was distinct from the One who begot him, he was not separable.
So God and his Word both share the same divine nature, and thus both are God. But they are one, i.e. united, inseparable. Now the One who begot the Word is referred to as the Father, and the Word is referred to as the Son. These two can be thought of as “persons”.
Since God is Love, the Father loves the Son and the Son Loves the Father back. But since God’s very nature is love, the love that is shared between the Father and the Son becomes another person! This is the person of the Holy Spirit.
God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. (Romans 5:5) "
Then a Jehovah’s witness made a comment about this particular statement-
Did I explain it well enough? Or is the above statement wrong?
