I was talking with my mother yesterday, about all manner of election stuff. She is a Methodist and absolutely hates Catholics and anything remotely relating to the Catholic Church.
So she said something about, “well, even Catholics believe in abortion for the life of the mother”. I looked at her and said, “NO WAY”. I told her that Catholics believe in the sanctity of life from conception to natural death, and to kill a baby in the womb to save the mother is a grave sin.
I used my own example: while pregnant with SweetGirlTwo at 24 weeks, I was rushed to the hospital with chest pains and a fever. I said that if I was having a heart attack, then yes, steps would be taken to save BOTH our lives. That is, the dr. wouldn’t decide to kill SweetGirlTwo in order that I might live. Now, if SweetGirlTwo had to be born because of life-saving measures for me, then everything conceivable would be done to ensure SweetGirlTwo’s survival.
I then wanted to go into Saint Gianna Molla, but held myself back–I figured that the mere fact that my mother even mentioned the word “Catholic” without bursting in flames was a step in the right direction.
So did I explain that to her correctly?
