Did I Invalidate My Confession Today?

This afternoon, I went to confession. I confessed all the sins I remembered in the confessional, although I remembered two more venial ones after I exited. That was not the point of this post, since I realize that sins left out due to forgetfulness and not on an intentional basis are forgiven as long as you remember to confess them later on.

No, what I was worried about was a sin that happened earlier in the day than the confession. I saw a post on the internet celebrating the horrible results of the Ireland abortion referendum and it started out with a remark against the Church and I lost my temper and wrote that I was angry and hurt about the post. And I typed in two other things saying how upset I was about the statement.

I mentioned this in the confessional saying I didn’t quite feel sorry quite yet about lashing out because I did not want to see anything bad written about the Church, although I hate losing my temper and getting angry (both of which I did regret) and also a few hours out of the confessional, I realize I went about it the wrong way (too self-centered on my feelings). I was given absolution though, but after coming home and being reminded of the post earlier, I got feelings making it seem as I was unrepentant and proud, and that has disturbed me a lot. Did I commit sacrilege? Please advise!

No, that was not a sacrilege and you did not invalidate your confession.

You’re fine. Don’t allow scruples to creep into your life.

As an irish voter that voted No on the 8th amendment and having a wife that went full time to war with the yes side, I can tell you I had some choice words for these demons who have got their evil wish to kill babies now legally in Ireland, albeit in the name of compassion. I remind myself of the gospel when Jesus over turned the money lenders tables and chased people from the temple he was in a rage, so If God can get angry about evil in the church why can’t you?I think it is ok to get mad at people attacking God because it is not out of pride but out of Love for God that you reacted.
PS I hope you never see some of my responses to anti Catholics!!!

Anger is not a sin, as per my understanding, it is how you react with anger that could make it a sin.
and I lost my temper and wrote that I was angry and hurt about the post. And I typed in two other things saying how upset I was about the statement.
You did not say you personally attacked the others in your comment, just that you wrote how you were “angry and hurt about the post” and “how upset you were about the comment”

Based on that ,I don’t see that as being a sin. However you can always ask your Preist next time you see him, in private, and he can give a better more accurate answer than I can. Maybe one of our Preist on this bored can answer this question.

This post made me feel kind of guilty as I say probably a ton more hateful things (for the sake of justice) throughout the day than I should, and I never really give them a second thought lol. In this case you are fine. If anything they would be venial sins. Don’t stress too much, and rest easy in Jesus’ mercy.
