So for quite a while when I first came back to confession, I did not confess the number of sins, and I didn’t even think to check if they were doubtful. I think that I vaguely knew that these were requirements but just never thought to apply them. I’m not sure how much knowledge I had on the matter at the time but I’m pretty sure I didn’t realize that it was really necessary.

I’m not sure at all if this would be something that could invalidate a confession and I’m not 100% sure what to do about it.

Go to confession again and explain to the priest everything you have said here. I’m sure he can clear things up for you. 🙂

People need to learn to trust themselves and their priests. You did not deliberately lie or withhold a known mortal sin (and only mortal sins need to be confessed in kind and number
or even at all.) You confessed your sins to the best of your ability, you received absolution, and your Confession is valid.

Confession is not to be taken lightly, but neither is it to be scrupled over. If this is a problem for you, (I am not saying it is, only you know that), find a regular Confessor and let him guide you. Do not get into the habit of questioning your Confessions unless you deliberately and knowingly lied or withheld mortal sins that you KNOW are mortal sins, yet went ahead and did them anyway, and if you do that, you know it.

You don’t need to do anything but thank God for His forgiveness.

Excellent. This should be a sticky.
Thanks!
