Hello all

I have a question a while back I forgot to confess a sin. I heard on these forms that if this happens I am suppose to confess it at my next confession

Now I cant rember if I commited that sin and went to confession recently and confessed it. Did I lie:confused:

You only lie when you intend to deceive. I see no such intent here.

If you go to confession and, in good faith, forgot to mention a sin that you had committed, then you are not guilty of lying. Furthermore, in confession all sins are forgiven, even those omitted in good faith. So in regards to the sacrament, you were not obligated to confess the sin that you had forgotten to mention but had already been absolved of. You were already forgiven.

Now, in regards to whether or not you committed the sin of lying by confessing the old sin, the answer is no. You were, out of good faith, confessing a sin that you were not sure was forgiven. Try to not be too hard on yourself by being over-scrupulous.

Yes we are forgive for a forgotten sin but we are obligated to confess it at our next confession.

I am not sure where you are getting that from. Once a sin is forgiven, it is forgiven and forgoten. There is no such thing as a “conditional forgiveness” of sins, as far as I know. All sins omitted in good faith are indeed forgiven just as if they had been confessed. While it may very well be a good practice to confess forgotten sins for one’s personal sense of peace, it is not, as far as I can tell, required for that sin to remain forgiven.
