Did I mistakenly receive Communion last night?

I suddenly realised today that I didn’t say “Lord I am not worthy…” before communion, I think I was quieting my children down or something.

If you received Holy Communion, you received.

The Real Presence isn’t conditional upon whether you said the prayer or not.

why would you think that not saying that was a mistake?

A related question someone asked on Catholic Answers Live (radio) was about distractions during prayer. St Thomas Aquinas spoke to this, and said that God looks to our intention of the prayer, even if we are distracted.

I think it would be different if you had not walked into mass until that point because you were late and still received. Just my 2 cents.

Sometimes I criticize Protestants for being too “big picture” in their faith — e.g., if a Protestant feels that how you act in your day-to-day life is irrelevant because he’s “already been saved” and therefore doesn’t have to be nice to strangers, welcome the poor, help the sick, etc.

Catholics, on the other hand, sometimes get too “small picture” in their faith. Where that Protestant is looking only at the forest and missing out on the trees, we’re looking only at the trees and missing out on the forest. We get caught up in “the rules” and miss out on the reason they exist.

God is merciful. Being distracted by doing your job as a parent is not going to get you in trouble with God.

Yes, but you need to be properly disposed from what I understand which is what the earlier parts of mass help us to do. But, yes, I agree.
