Did I observe the Sabbath sufficently?

Today I decided to go to Mass at a cathedral in the city, instead of at my usual church.I wanted to go there because it is a very historical and interesting place.I sort of assumed it was Catholic.But when I got there, I realized it was Anglican.😦 I stayed for the service anyway-It was an hour and a half long-longer then my usual Mass- and I payed attention and found it interesting, and said some Catholic prayers.It wasnt really all that different to a Catholic service.I did not recieve Eucharist, because Im not sure weather Anglicans believe in Real Presence.I also sang several hymns when I got home.Did I observe the Sabbath sufficently?I hope so, because its evening now, and I wont have another oppurtunity to go to Mass today.😦
 
I’d say you did observe the Sabbath, but you did not fulfill the obgligation to go to Mass. You had some ignorance in the matter which contributed to your not attending Mass at a Catholic Church. But you did intend to go to Mass. So personally I’d say you did not have an informed and complete intent to disobey the Church. Venial sin and not Mortal sin – this time. But be sure to confess it the next time you go to confession.

It would have been wrong to receive communion at the Anglican Church. I think you were correct to respect their service and to not distract other worshippers by walking out – but that is only my personal opinion.

If this ever happens again on a Sunday, please find a nearby Catholic Church and attend Mass ASAP – even if it is not in English.

Even at this time, it may not be too late in some places. It may be a good idea to find out where the latest Sunday Mass is in your area – at least for next time you miss.

By the way, Roman Catholic Cathedrals are where there is a Roman Catholic Bishop. I suppose you are aware of where your local Bishop has his church.

Hopefully somebody more experienced than me may also reply and correct me if I’m wrong in anything.

I don’t know where you live, but can you attend a Sunday evening mass somewhere?
 
You have not committed a sin of any kind because you had no intent to sin at all. You made an honest to God mistake and wound up in an Anglican Church rather than a Catholic one. You prayed to Jesus, you gave Jesus your love and attention, you acted justly in the situation.

Hopefully by your prayers the Anglican community will be blessed by God. Jesus does have sheep ‘who are not of this flock’, remember that.

I suppose by now it is too late to go to Mass, don’t worry about that, you did not intend to miss Mass. To observe the Sabbath you must go to Mass, but you did not intend to not observe the Sabbath; God knows that, so don’t worry about it.

Next Sunday go to Mass at a Catholic Church and offer your Eucharist for those people at the Anglican Church (they do not have the Real Presence).

Don’t worry:) Say the words and prayers of the Mass at home by yourself this Sunday and make spiritual communion with Jesus.

p.s Years ago I went on a particular holiday and searched high and low for a Catholic Church, I walked miles on behalf of my family (I can’t drive) and still couldn’t find it and I had directions and a map, but still I couldn’t find it. I set out again the next day and still didn’t find it so I missed Mass on Sunday not because I wanted to but because I couldn’t find the Church. I went back to my accomodation, lit a candle infront of my Crucifix and said the prayers of the Mass ommitting the Priests words of consecration with my family and made spiritual communion with Jesus.

Do you think God will reject me after I walked miles to try and find His Real Presence and sorrowfully had to go home unsuccessful? No He won’t. God does not put the Law above Love, but Love is above the Law.

You can go to the following website to get the mass schedule, locations of Catholic Churches throughout the world so you will never miss a Sunday mass or end up in a non-Catholic service.

There are some churches that offer evening mass schedule especially during the summer months. If you are traveling, to be on the safe side, go to mass on a Saturday evening or first thing Sunday morning. Do not wait to go to the last holy mass of the day.
