Did I offend the CMO?

I went to a function after work today. Some of the company top brass was there, too. The new incoming CMO went to our circle and asked us who we are, etc. When he asked me, I told me I’m originally from a small town in IL. He asked me if I missed it, and I said, “You know, strangely, I do miss the cornfields.” I guess it was a tongue-in-cheek joke, but I half meant it, too, and people laughed. I kinda forgot that he used to be the head of the Midwest region, based out of Chicago, IL. He then said something about driving through Wisconsin, and that there were a lot of cornfields there. Since I was the last person to introduce myself in the group, he went to talk to another group. I now kinda regret saying that joke. Did I offend him? I really hope not. Am I over-thinking it? Thank you.

As long as you’re not trying to offend people, try not to worry too much about not pleasing men. Please God.

I don’t understand how what you said could be construed as insulting. Am I missing something?

I don’t get the possible offense either.

As someone who is also from Illinois, I can confidently say that anyone who has ever driven through the entire state knows that there is Chicago and there is corn and soy beans.

I’m right smack in the middle of the corn & beans 😃

No, I’m sure you didn’t.

I come into contact with lots of “company brass” on a regular basis. They’re usually too busy to be offended by anyone outside their inner circle. Trust me. It went in one ear and out the other. It was a meet-n-greet. He won’t remember. If anything, what he’ll remember is that you actually had something sincere to say to him.

I’ve had the job for a year now. LOL! The meet-and-greet was for the summer interns.
Sorry I must have been thinking of another poster! 😊

I don’t think you did anything wrong. Small talk is always awkward for me, but most people don’t take things wrong in those settings.

So, I bumped into the CMO in the hallway in a couple of days ago. And he remembered me! He said hi, and shook my hand. He was walking with someone else, and he remarked, “This guys wants to go back to the Midwest!” To that I said, “Gotta love the Midwest!” Well, I suppose one of my next positions is likely to be in the Midwest.

God’s Spirit is in my heart,
He has called me and set me apart.
This is what I have to do,
what I have to do.

He sent me to give the Good News to the poor,
Tell prisoners that they are prisoners no more,
Tell blind people that they can see,
And set the downtrodden free
And go tell everyone the news that the Kingdom of God has come,
And go tell everyone the news that the Kingdom of God has come.

Just as the Father sent me,
So I’m sending you out to be
My witnesses throughout the world,
The whole of the world.

Don’t worry what you have to say,
Don’t worry because on that day
God’s Spirit will speak in your heart,
Will speak in your heart.
