Today in confession I had a priest (I assume) was foreign. Everything went fine, until the Act of Contrition. He handed me a paper with the prayer on it. I smiled and told him “Thank you, but I know to say it” He said “okay” and proceded to absolve me. I was really confused, so I said the Act of Contrition before my pence just in case.

Did I botch it?

The Act of Contrition isn’t strictly necessary for absolution. So if he absolved you, you’re absolved. And next time you Confess to him, you’ll know that if you want to say the Act of Contrition you’ll just take the paper and say it from memory.
