Did I sin by delivering the Sunday paper?

A friend who lives in my neighborhood has a Sunday paper route. He asked me to help him deliver the Sunday paper this morning (late Saturday night/early Sunday, however you look at it). I felt bad for him so I helped him out. But as I was bagging the papers before we delivered, I started thinking about all the scandalous ads in the paper. I know those ads are an occasion of sin for me, and I avoid them if I read the paper. Some photos are rather explicit, especially ones that advertise underwear, etc. I’m sure most people are aware of this.

Anyhow, I started getting worried that I was contributing to sin and to sexual temptation by delivering the papers, because I would be delivering a product that might make someone else like me (or men in general, most likely) fall into sin if they see these ads or other scandalous pictures that are in the paper (like the entertainment section). Nevertheless, I delivered the papers because I wasn’t sure if I was overreacting.

Have I sinned? What is the morality of this situation? Is delivering papers with scandalous ads aiding sin/temptation?

personally i dont think your contributing to the sin and it sounds like a venial sin so just ask forgiveness of god if its getting to you that badly.
 
No you didn’t sin, you helped a friend who needed help and that is a work of mercy, so rather than sinning, you practised virtue. Please remember what Jesus said about the Sabbath being made for man, not man for the Sabbath and that who among any of us if our sheep had fell down a well would not go out after it to rescue it. The very fact that you quibble whther you sinned or not tells me you did not sin. A person has to INTEND to sin as well as there being grave matter and a will to seperate themselves from God. You did none of these.

As for the ads, you cannot be responsible for other peoples sins and temptations. If a person is tempted by such images why don’t they instantly throw such papers in the bin? I think you are worrying overduly. Please do not become over anxious about sin, this is the well trodden road that leads many a good soul into becoming scrupulous.

It’s a matter of getting things in the right proportion and you did just that, so don’t worry about this at all. You have done nothing wrong, so have a restful and Blessed Sunday and stop fretting.

Unfortunately, sex is inescapable in our society. Almost anything you do can be construed as sinful if the only criterium is that someone might just stumble upon something that will cause them to lust.

You can’t refer anyone to the internet, b/c of all the filth on it, even on sidebar ads.
You can’t refer anyone to a television, b/c of all the scandalous programmes and commercials.
You can’t invite someone to Mass, b/c of scandalously clad young people.
Etc.

I think you answered your own question:

The people you deliver them to have the same option!

Other than that, I’m with blessedstar - you were performing an act of mercy; a good occupation on a Sunday.

Those people you deliver to are responsible for their own sins
and what to do about it. They have ordered the paper, you are
not delivering it unsolicited.

However, I do not believe in conducting unnecessary business
on Sunday. I would not deliver the Sunday paper on Sunday,
but I would find it difficult to explain this to a friend asking for help.

On Tuesday of course. That way you get over the stress of Monday and getting back to work before you have to read all the hideous stuff that happened over the weekend. You can’t read it on Wednesday because it’s too close to the weekend and you never know if you’ll be a headliner next Sunday.
 
You are too funny. With all the things out there to be worried about, I truly think delivering the paper is not all that big a deal.

Saturday or Monday would be good. The newspaper
isn’t going to save anyone’s life by being delivered on
Sunday. The hospitals, police and fire need to be
working on Sunday but who else really has to? What’s
more important, honoring God on His day or making more
profit. I believe God would reward the person who would
put out a newspaper not delivered on Sunday for the
reason of honoring God.

I don’t agree, the media works every day of the week so the public can be informed everyday of the week. The delivery staff would work late Saturday-early Sunday to deliver the Sunday paper (early edition, final edition, etc.). Those that prepare it would work on Sunday for the Monday paper edition.

Where do you draw the line with it? Only the television media may work (preparing for next day, or anchors the same day) on Sunday? Or, can the non-MSM bloggers prepare/work on Sunday to give more unbiased reporting to the public? I think the public can choose where to get their sources of news info.
