I had gave into a sin of the flesh and during it, the virgin Mary kept on popping into my head I didn’t want to masturbate to that but I got it out of my head and finished sinning. I think she was trying to make me stop it.

Am I excommunicated I only did it to the picture not to the thought of Mary

If I am excommunicated than can I get some advice

No, you’re not excommunicated.

Go to Confession, and speak to your priest about your scrupulosity. Refrain from asking questions like this on here. It will only make it worse.

Well I’m in the stages of converting and due to covid I have to wait until fall of next year so I don’t know where else to go right now.

Not to pick on you, but how could you be excommunicated before you’re even in the church? You have to be in before you’re out.

But, no. And you really shouldn’t ask these types of questions here.

You’re not even Catholic yet, so I take back what I said. You can’t go to confession yet. Pray an act of contrition and resolve not to sin again. And be patient, you’ll be there eventually.

But to echo @RolandThompsonGunner, how could you possibly get excommunicated if you aren’t in communion with the Church? You can’t lose what you don’t have.

some sins are automatic excommunication, and I also meant that when I do go to confession, i don’t want to be excommunicated when I do go

We all sin in one way or another. If we didn’t we wouldn’t be human. The issue isn’t so much the sin, but how you strive to improve afterwards. Many a recovering alcoholic has fallen off the wagon. Should they just keep on drinking, or pick themselves up and start on the path again?

Your baptism will wash away all mortal sins. However, after that you will need to go to the sacrament of penance if you fall into the grave sin of masturbation.

It is good you are thinking of these things as it will make you a strong Catholic by knowing and following the teachings of the church.

In order to be automatically excommunicated, you have to be bound by Canon Law, which you are not, since you haven’t been baptized into the church. And furthermore, you would have to be aware that there is an automatic excommunication for a particular sin and still do it anyway. And the sin that you’ve described is not one that would carry an automatic excommunication.

You really need to get help for your scrupulosity, and not ask on internet forums. It won’t help.

Do you not think I’ve tried to end this sin? I have tried everything from holy water to even stop using my phone I can’t stop

If you can’t stop something then you should seek professional help as well as spiritual help. Losing control of your will is a scary thing and not something to take lightly.

I used to be a Protestant so because in that church I was baptized in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit. As you have seen I have a terrible knowledge of catechism so I have to be taught

Do you think I’ve taken it lightly ? The pandemic is stopping me from converting, and I just said I tried everything, once I even tore up my shirt, I’ve nearly wrecked my room because of it

I didn’t say you are taking it lightly. I did say that if you have an issue and can’t stop the action then you need to seek professional and spiritual help.

I can’t because I can’t talk with the priest right now because of covid 19

I’m not sure what you are looking for. You aren’t Catholic yet, you can’t stop self abuse and Mary was involved. No one can offer you absolution, even a priest online, no one can tell you it isn’t sinful (your conscience is formed in regard to this and you can’t stop a behavior you wish to stop. Ok. Well either stop doing it or seek professional help if you can’t stop.
Don’t look at porn, don’t self abuse. Master your own will.

You just made me realize that I’m being self loathing, I just need to pray, try to resist the temptation’s, try to fast, and just wait until I can learn enough about the faith to go to confession and communion. Do you know of any good online catechism classes?
