Early this morning in a groggy state I started the “M” word multiple times, but every time I stopped myself because I didn’t want to sin…but did I by just starting? Am I being too scrupulous about this? I started the Rosary and I prayed like crazy to stop myself.

You did great! Always continue to struggle. Never just give up this fight altogether. As long as you struggle, God is pleased with you trying to please Him.

you have nothing to worry about, what God asks of us is to stop ourselves when we are tempted to sin or when we first realize what we are doing,
the only point at which you sin is when you realize what you’re doing and don’t stop yourself,

but besides that, you also are not guilty of sin when you are still half asleep and not capable of being fully aware of your actions, the same goes for dreams, it is not possible to sin in your sleep.

but just remember that temptations are a good thing when you overcome them, because it makes you stronger and you get more graces from God when you overcome them.

NO.

That would be called resisting the temptation to sin.

You stopped? You lucky son of a gun. Why do you/anyone call it the “m” word? That to me is immature. I performed the “m” word this morning

When you first wake up you don’t have full control of your reasoning faculties, even if it seems like you do.

I hate it when I do immoral things when I am groggy because throughout the whole day the thought that I may have committed a grave sin is always in the back of my mind. But rest assured that thought will go away.

It is impossible to commit a mortal sin while groggy. I think it is possible to commit a venial sin though.

I am really pleased when I am extremely groggy and I still am able to resist really bad temptations.😃

Also for future reference. One does not have to “finish” to commit a mortal sin of masturbation:
2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."137 “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved.
It says nothing about finishing. I would assume you didn’t know this so don’t worry. You were also in a groggy state. So it was at most a venial sin.

If you are having problems with masturbation the following website may help:

It has many helpful prayers that are designed for people that are engaged in some sort of spiritual strugle.

Peace of Jesus Christ be with you.👍

Ok I just saw this thread and it makes me wonder, lets say you are resisting the sin and you stop but finish anyway without your help, have you still commited mortal sin?

The catechism defines masturbation as ‘deliberate stimulation of the genital organs’. 'Taint no way it’s deliberate in your situation.

Wow fast response and pretty late to, though looking at your location Australia would be a little earlier than here. Thanks for your response just wondering

Brother Scapularkid8,

Keep up the good fight. God does not measure us by our success, but rather by faithfulness and love.
