Did Islam force conversions at the point of the sword?

abuses done during the crusades can be justified to a certain level.
There is “no and never” a justification to kill another human. Do u remember the commandments moses had? And I do believe jesus said turn the other cheek.

I think a lot of problems around this issue is that some people take “the sword” to only be a part of Islam when people are actively being massacred for refusing to convert. I think that this is wrong. While there are many, many, many examples of such behavior in Islam (both historically and in the contemporary world), forcing conversions is a much more complicated matter than simply saying “we will kill you if you don’t accept Islam”. For example, the devshirme I referenced earlier involved the taking of Christian children, prior to adolescence, to be raised as Muslims and used as military or in high positions. Is this forced conversion? Yes. Does it necessarily involve violence? No, but just the same it could not be refused.

So I take “the sword” to be more a metaphorical (and, unfortunately, often literal) idea: Force may be resorted to, but before that there are many steps that can be taken. This was part of Islam’s sophistication, if you will, upon being integrated into non-Arab societies, such that the Berbers and other earlier converts very much were put to the literal sword, while later converts like the Indonesians were ensnared by economic incentive.

It is all the same garbage, as it all results in Islam overtaking everything.
I am in the middle of a debate with a Nation of Islam Muslim .When I cited the suras that condoned violence and promoted it for a reward, he was proud of it and stated he was a real man . I told him that the Quran also condones beating your wife and men who beat their wives are not real men . The Quran was not inspired by GOd .

The NOI is based on racism, and is the Mormonism of Islam. Compared with Scripture here.

Yeah, the Nation of Islam is not very a good representation of Islam or what the vast majority of Muslims believe. I know a few people who grew up in “the Nation”, as they call it, and they’re nice folks, but man…that belief system is absolutely bonkers. Malcom X left after realizing that, and paid with his life.

Justify - To declare free of blame; absolve.

Again I said justified to a certain level, not completely justified. The abuses done in the crusades were condemned by its leaders. No one ordered the sacking of Constantinople or Jerusalem. The crusades being a large, unorganized group divided among several leaders, abuses were inevitable.

Hey everyone. I have often heard from pro-Islamic sources that Islam did not force conversions at the point of the sword. They often quote the verse from the Koran that says there is no compulsion in religion. However, I am not sure whether to believe them or not. Were people forced to convert to Islam at the point of the sword or not? Please provide sources.
It depends on where they are. In a muslim minority country you will hear that kind of things. In a muslim majority country you will hear “if you are not with us, you are against us” or that kind of things.
