Today’s first reading struck me (Judges 11:29-39). I don’t recall reading that it was custom for the Isrealites to make a vow to sacrifice their children to God and that it became custom. I know they sacrificed their children to demons but not to God.
I guess if I contrast it to Abraham there is a difference in that God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son and then stopped him. With Jephthah he said OK God You help me win this battle and I’ll kill whoever walks through the door as a sacrifice to You.
Did Jephthah sin in saying he was going to perform a human sacrifice to God in the first place number one, and did he sin again when he carried out what he said he was going to do?
