Did Jesus Baptise?

I was debating bapisim with some protestant friends and he said He didn’t using Jonn4:1 I said if you backup to Jn 3:22 it sais he did, he then said Jn 4:1 was talking about Jn 3:22.
He seems to be right. I think. Is he wrong, or are there any other places where Jesus did baptise??

Someone better than me is going to have to answer this.

Jn 3:22 says - Jesus went to the land of Judea were he remained and baptized.

Jn 4:1 says - the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and **baptizing more disciples **than John

Jn 4:2 says - although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples.

So when Jesus went to Judea did he only baptize his disciples and no one else? Even if that’s true it still shows that Jesus DID baptize. If they are trying to say that only the disciples baptized and not Jesus than it would appear that there is a contradiction between the passages.

So they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you testified, **here he is baptizing **and everyone is coming to him.”

It clearly says that Jesus WAS baptizing.

I think these verses can be legitimately thought to refer to Jesus’ disciples baptizing people. It is often the case that the person in authority is credited with the actions of his followers. Especially since Jesus instructed them to do the baptisms.

John 3:26 *And they came to John, and said to him: Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou gavest testimony, behold he baptizeth, and all men come to him.

These passages seem to indicate that JESUS did BAPTIZE. However, consider, if the servant does something in the name of the MASTER . … Does’t the MASTER get credit? . … We say if a Priest absolves you of sin, JESUS absolves you, because he’s in persona CHRISTi. By the same token we could say so of the Apostles. Because all who receive a disciple of JESUS receive JESUS . … this also leads us to the woe unto those who bring scandal to this office of discipleship . …

Please correct me where i err (but don’t correct my grammar or spelling please).

Sabda brings up a good question.
It seems that the reason the scriptures mention that the diciples of Jesus were baptizing rather than Jesus Himself is to point out a fundamental difference in Jesus’ Baptism.

" A man can only receive what has been given him"

John’s Baptism was earthly so he couldn’t offer his baptism vicariously. That’s why it also mentions that more were being baptized by Jesus and why. This would have not gone unnoticed by John’s diciples.

" He must grow greater I must grow smaller."

This infusion of power from master to diciple must have been striking to the diciples of John when they saw it.

But did Jesus Baptize the 12? good question. Jesus called John " a perfect pattern of righteousness".

I think a Baptism confers a perfection of God made available on earth through the person who’s life reveals it’s pattern.

Because of that I think He might have baptized one. But of course He didn’t have to. He could have just told them to Baptize in His name.
