I was listening to a discussion group that went on about this topic. I thought we killed Jesus for our sins, but my husband says that he wasn’t killed but that he gave his soul freely to the Father.
Jesus freely chose to allow men to kill him and thus died. We couldn’t have killed God unless he freely chose to allow it (e.g., Luke 4:28-30, John 8:57-59, 10:17-18), but God also did not commit a “holy suicide” (as I saw it put once in a book by a Catholic priest). Men did indeed choose to kill God, who chose to die at their hands.
