As a divine human…

Don’t you think He would have not really liked us all that much? We must have annoyed Him to some degree with all our stupidity and so forth.

If he were walking around today, would he be our friend? Does it matter?

Love…Yes of course.

Like…What do you think?

Are there scripture passages that allude to this?

The fact that he is our God and King, is all merciful, and is love. The fact that we even EXIST proves he loves us, and infact does like us. He is the Divine Mercy, always was and always will be. His love is stronger than any human love, and his love for us is incomprehensible.

How could our stupidity annoy Him? Well, he did turn over the tables in the temple when people were using it as a marketplace…

Yes, He would like us more than anyone else would. No matter how stupid and annoying we are, He will never get annoyed, impatient, or anything. To become annoyed with someone means that you have a lack of love for them, God lacks no love whatsoever. Therefore, He will never be annoyed with us.

To like someone is a little love for that person, so if you love someone as God does, then you also like them to an extreme degree. That is why we are so confident of our sins being forgiven by God no matter how big they are or how many/often. He will always have that burning Heart of love for us.

The world today is a great example. There is sin at every corner now, yet God has not punished us with tremendous nuclear war or anything (even though the threat is still hanging over our heads). He is being very merciful and patient right now, I think.

there were times when He was disappointed and even angry, but His love was always there.

Like a loving parent.

A of L:

No, he’d be our Father. If you have children, do you ever get annoyed with him/her/them? Does it stop you from loving him/her/them? How smart are children anyway? (Too smart for their own good, when they become teenagers! )

God bless,

I doubt it, people are so filled with hate, malice, sin, violence, lust, etc it would be quit impossible for ANYONE to like us if they saw everybody as they really are and not masks of what we wish to show.

I have never understood those who say Jesus loves you (as one priest told me daily, he was my high school’s priest) or that if you were the only person in the whole world Jesus would die for you, I’m not really sure why people think he would die for the whole world let alone one rotten person. Those who express that view, in my opinion, are naive at best, for they do not know the acts of another person but that person does know their own acts.

He DID die for the whole world, and all the people who were yet to be born. As God, He came exactly for that purpose. His life wasn’t taken, he laid it down.

Jesus is like a doctor. Do doctors hate sick people?? No, they spend their days serving sick people and working to make them well.

God knows all acts, both what is said aloud and spoken within the heart. You say you can’t imagine He loves us, and that is naive, but do you think there were not great sinners then as now? Was Christ’s sacrifice not only sufficient for all those sins that had been committed, but also for those that were still to come?

Christ proved His love on the cross - it is unconditional, it is everlasting, and it is the cause of our existence, our understanding of love, and our happiness. People believe He would die for the salvation of the world because He did. And if you think He wouldn’t for only one person, my take is that you are not a parent. God created us purely out of love - would He not offer up another physical body to withstand the torment and agony of death so that His own creation could be saved?

What I struggle with is the concept that God should be ‘personified’. I know this sounds ironic since Jesus became man, but I mean it not in the physical sense, but in terms of our emotions, our weaknesses, etc. Not that Jesus didn’t have human nature, but He also had divine nature, which means the pettiness we see amongst society would not pertain to Him - He is infinitely above that.

I think Christ would like us.

He sees us as we really are–better than we think we are–he knows how we’ll be once we’re perfected and in heaven.

He came to make that happen, so he could divinize us, forgive sin perpetually, give us grace, and he even said, “I go to prepare a place for you, so that where I am, you may also be.”

If he didn’t like us, he wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to ensure that we will be with him forever.

To think that a person is only the sum total of their sins is to think as if we had never had a savior who opened the gates of heaven for us and healed us.

In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus is the Good Samaritan. The beaten, wounded man is humanity needing help and healing.

He promised we’d get good care and that he’s coming back. Maranatha!

May I suggest it is an error to try to separate “loving” and “liking”. In most languages it is the same (e.g. Je t’aime). If a person says they love someone, but don’t like them- it would sound like the worst kind of hypocrisy and patronization- wanting to claim the virtue of charity, but not really put in the effort of understanding and appreciation.

Everyone is a Son or Daughter of God. We need to find the goodness in them, and start liking. Then, if you like enough, it can be called love. There is no short cut to charity.

I am confident Jesus would have seen the best in everyone, and found them genuinely worthwhile- not just objects of some abstract ‘charity’.

People simply fail to understand-and trust-the love of God for man. But God *created *us-we’re His handiwork, and made in His own image, meaning we’re *like *Him in some way, even if it rarely seems to be so. And He doesn’t stop loving us just because we’ve strayed far from being who He created us to be; He loves us in spite of our sin. That’s what the Atonement is all about, in fact, God proving to us mistrustful imbeciles what He should never have to prove: first of all His existence, also His power, but most of all His kindness, patience. mercy, trustworthiness, and love.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:8

Christ is God, and His love is unconditional and boundless.

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

Quite to the contrary, I think that GKC was closer to the mark when he wrote the following.

“And as I close this chaotic volume I open again the strange small book from which all Christianity came; and I am again haunted by a kind of confirmation. The tremendous figure which fills the Gospels towers in this respect, as in every other, above all the thinkers who ever thought themselves tall. His pathos was natural, almost casual. The Stoics, ancient and modern, were proud of concealing their tears. He never concealed His tears; He showed them plainly on His open face at any daily sight, such as the far sight of His native city. Yet He concealed something. Solemn supermen and imperial diplomatists are proud of restraining their anger. He never restrained His anger. He flung furniture down the front steps of the Temple, and asked men how they expected to escape the damnation of Hell. Yet He restrained something. I say it with reverence; there was in that shattering personality a thread that must be called shyness. There was something that He hid from all men when He went up a mountain to pray. There was something that He covered constantly by abrupt silence or impetuous isolation. There was some one thing that was too great for God to show us when He walked upon our earth; and I have sometimes fancied that it was His mirth.”
― G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy

You can like/love someone and still get angry/annoyed. Todays reading showed Him getting a bit mad/annoyed at Peter, called him Satan in fact. Poor Peter got on His good side and immediatly messed it up minutes later.

He also seemed annoyed at Peter, James, and John duing the agony in the garden.

Were His disciples the kind of people society would put up with? Let’s see…

Matthew: shyster tax collector and traitor
Peter: Hotheaded roughneck fisherman
James and John: “Sons of thunder”, aka grouchy
Mary Magdalene: (allegedly) a prostitute

  1. Born of the Father before all ages.
  2. Through him all things were made.
I would say he was overwhelmed with life, sunrises, sunsets, birds, trees. I would think he was elated. He made us (or at least had a very big hand in it). He is related to us. We are all brothers. Do you love you weird uncle or idiot brother? Yes, even more so. Hopefully. On the night of the last supper he said, of all things, “I shall no longer be able to share the fruit of the vine with you”. Of all things to say, that he did say that night. That he would say that suggests to me he thoroughly enjoyed life and the time he shared with the disciples. I’m sure they laughed an joked a lot. Obviously he was also filled with an over-riding sense of melancholy, fear and disappointment (the garden). … “take this cup from me… …not my will, but yours…”

Ironically, unrelated but fun for me, I think Timothy Leary was right (just misguided)…
Tune In (to the Holy Spirit)
Turn On (to Jesus Christ)
Drop Out (of the culture of death)

Which makes it even less likely that it happened. Even if people could provide arguments that prove God (I doubted they depend on classical logic that quantum physics undermines), the idea that this being loves us and knows are deepest evils is so ridiculous as to not have happened, it is incomprehensible.

yes - the only thing crazier is if it isn’t true. i can assure you it’s true. it’s a mystery, which is difficult… and faith requires doubt… so it’s never easy - like who would think it would be - but it’s true - He Is the Way, the Truth and the Light…

If you really want to know, just think about it and aske when you go to sleep at night. keep asking. you will get the answer. ask and you shall receive. it works. but you have to be open and honest.

it’s like a lot of things… you just have to think about… if it isn’t true then what is? think about it. how can our world exist? if the big bang was 3 billionths of a second slower the universe would have collapsed on itself. if it was 3 billionths of a second faster it would have blown apart irrevocably. 99.999997% of matter was consumed by anti-matter. the physical universe as we know it is made up of the remaining .000003%. water, why does it expand when frozen when everything else contracts. why does it exist in three states in such a narrow temperature range. the diameter of the earth, the distance from the sun… random. what are the odds? i think we are alone. if anyone else is out there - they are us, from another time… maybe there are billions of times just like ther are billions of stars/space/probabilities… and that’s just science. more importantly is salvation history (of course it’s hard to go there if you don’t believe). to me it is totally illogical for it not to be true. alli can say is trust me. wish i had more but if you get there yoy will understand and a white hot fire will burn in you

see stephen hawking (recent atheist, unfortunately, pray for him) and ‘radically amazing’ (judy cannato) …

God be with you…
