Did Jesus get off easy?

The price to be paid for sin is eternal suffering in hell. Doesn’t that mean that for Jesus to pay that price he has to be in hell forever? Why is it that a few hours of torture on a cross is equal to an eternity of hell?
 
Dear Martin,

A human being’s eternity in hell could never begin to pay the price for offending God. Jesus is God and only He could make up for such an offense. Further, He could do it with just a thought. But He chose to show us His love in a way that we could understand enough to imitate.

For God to allow men that He created from nothing to torture Him and put Him to death is more than we can fully comprehend–so much beyond our limited intellects is His love.

WE are the ones who have been let off easy. We need to get down on our knees daily in gratitude!
