Firstly… It is not a figment of the Catholic Church’s imagination that Mary was a Virgin. In fact,
St. Ignatius of Antioch who was a DIRECT DISCIPLE of
The Apostle John. Ignatius who was martyred around 117 A.D. Wrote the following:
You are firmly convinced about our Lord, who is truly of the race of David according to the flesh, Son of God according to the will and power of God, truly BORN OF A VIRGIN…

Who would know better about the Blessed Virgin Mary than a
direct disciple of the Apostle John.
And as far as
James and whether he is a brother, Apostle…etc… In the
Catechism of the Catholic Church it clearly states that James is
a disciple of Christ and the son of another “Mary” and not the Blessed Virgin:
CC 500:
“Against this doctrine the objection is sometimes raised that the Bible mentions brothers and sisters of Jesus. The Church has always understood these passages as not referring to other children of the Virgin Mary. In fact James and Joseph, “brothers of Jesus”, are the sons of another Mary, a disciple of Christ, whom St. Matthew significantly calls “the other Mary”. They are close relations of Jesus, according to an Old Testament expression.”
It is always great when people ask questions regarding the teachings and positions of the Catholic Church when sincere… What is not great is when the questions are put in a circular fashion just looking to bait others. If you want your questions answered then try asking with some respect and not with sarcasm that will only continue circular debates which are intended for your entertainment.
God bless all
**my apologies if this info is a repeat… Now I am seeing all in circles after 5 pages of text. lol
