Hi there,

I had this dream last night about The Nativity. and I woke up thinking about if Jesus knew Mary, and new what He was going to do on Earth in the womb. I know babies really can’t do that, but Jesus is God…

I’m just wondering. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, in His Divinity He knew who she was, but in His Humanity he had to learn everything that babies have to learn.

Ditto the previous poster’s comment. Luke 2:52 tells us that the child Jesus grew in wisdom and stature as well, affirming that he experienced humanity fully. :o

Theologians commonly hold that the human nature of Jesus had the Beatific Vision of God from His Incarnation. He not only learned in the usual way that human persons learn, he also had knowledge directly from his Divine Nature to his human nature, since the two natures are the One Person.

However, his human mind is finite. So it is reasonable to conclude that as a prenatal, infant, and child, his understanding in his human mind, even from the Beatific Vision, was limited to some extent by his age and state of development.

Even before Jesus became Flesh he already know Mary, He was the one who created all things (God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) so even before He was conceived He already know His mother.

You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. - Psalms 139:13
