I had always thought that Jesus knew that He was God for his entire life, even when He was an infant, but lately something I heard caused me to think that perhaps this is not so. Honestly, it caused me to think that perhaps He didn’t ever know with absolute certainty while on this earth that He was God.

Did Jesus know that He was God during His life on this earth, from the moment of His incarnation, according to the beliefs of the Catholic church?

The Church has taught that in his divine nature Jesus always knew he was God. How can God not know He is God? However Jesus’ human nature was a true human nature and thus cannot be infinite in its knowledge. Jesus’ human nature would have grown and developed the much like everyone else but without the hindrance of original sin. Divine knowledge is pure, human knowledge is conceptual and relies on the medians of language or math.
Essentially we can say that Jesus always knew he was God however needed to wait until his human nature acquired the ability, language and concepts to express it.
