What do Catholics believe on this subject ?
It does appear in scriptures that Jesus was eating the Passover meal, but then He interrupted events and began the Eucharist. And, He said He would not drink of the fruit of vine again until He came into His new Kingdom.
It looks like Jesus only hosted the Supper, but didn’t partake of Himself.
Catholics teach we are now in the New Kingdom … via the Church experience here on earth. And they say we know this to be the case because Jesus ate / drank wine with Apostles during the 40 days before the Assent into heaven.
However, I only find where it says Jesus ‘broke bread’ and ‘ate fish’ with the disciples. I find nothing about drinking of the cup with the disciples.
Thus, did Jesus 1). drink wine @ the first celebration of Eucharist … and did he 2). drink it in 40 days thereafter, and thus usher in the new Kingdom ?
If not, do we only believe the Church is in the New Kingdom based on Church tradition ?
