Did Jesus rise from the dead more than once?

In the Nicene Creed we that Jesus “rose again on the third day.” I was asked by a fellow parishioner why the word “again” is used and if Jesus rose from the dead before. I think that He only rose once and that the word “again” is not to be taken in its normal context. Would you please resolve this for us. Thank you
