Did Jesus study Kabbalistic teachings?

I’ve always been of the opinion that he did, based on the fact that so much in the NT comes from the Kabbalah (as well as from the Jewish Bible.)

It seems there are also some sites online for Christians who also recognize that Jesus delved into the teachings of the Kabbalah!

I have seen this claim more than once. It is also possible that he was an essene, and as such had studied them along with other related writings.

Or it could be that he knew Judaism in and out because he was there when it started and as it evolved

I know, this was not to be a “Jesus is right” thread. I could not resist.

I would say that he had studied them in any event.

If one considers that Kabbalistic teaching came into existence in the 1st and 2 nd centuries of our era, and that it only really became formulated between the 11th and 13th centries, then I would conclude that the Kabbala borrowed from Jesus, and not the other way around

I don’t know (and we may never know) but I do recall from 40 years or so back, probably with the talk over Thomas Merton’s works, that there was speculation that in the ‘lost years’ between 12 and 30 Jesus studied BUDDHISM (because, or so it was said, there were so many things He taught in Scipture and Tradition that were likewise’ found’ in Buddhist teachings.)

As another poster said, I think it far more likely that any similarities found in ‘teachings’ (be they Kabbala, Buddhism, even ‘pagan’ practices) to what Jesus taught only proves that “Truth’s” kernals can be found to a degree in every aspect of human teaching (sometimes very small and even perverted, but the ‘germ’ still there); only the fullness though I believe is found in Catholicism.

Actually, Judaism teaches that the information in the Kabbalah existed for thousands of years, but was not set into writing until more recently. The wisdom was there much longer, before Jesus. Ditto for much that is in the Talmud.

Ok. Not really an expert on Judaism, so not going to argue on that point.
