I have a Baptist friend that insists that Jesus drank grape juice & also changed the water into grape juice at the Cana wedding. She said that during the translations there wasn’t a word for grape juice in Greek to translate into English & so they used the word wine.?? I had never heard of this before & was wondering about it? Of course they don’t believe in any drinking!

I have really enjoyed reading the posts on this forum & have learned alot, to question her about. We had a debate last Saturday night & this was one of the things brought up.

Thanks

Dear R,

There wasn’t a word for grape juice because they didn’t have grape juice. There were no refrigerators then and there was no way of preventing grape juice from fermenting. That process had to wait for modern times to be invented—thanks to the Welches Grape juice people. I’m afraid that grape juice isn’t very biblical. Notice how Jews always use wine for their liturgies—not grape juice?
