I would like to know if that’s true that Jesus Wrongly predict the world at Matthew 23;36? Did Jesus thought the World’s End would come in his generation? I would like to know because I’ve heard it on a video of Bart Ehrman:

And I saw some atheists saying that the fact Jesus thought the world soon was going to an end, and some of his followers thought it, would be enough to Debunk all Christianity.

Please help me with that!

He wasn’t talking about the world’s end- He was talking about God’s judgment being handed down upon Israel. He was talking about the how Israel persecuted God’s prophets, God’s Messiah, and later, the Christians. Almost all studies that I have read agree that He was foretelling the fall of Jerusalem and the Temple being destroyed in AD 70. A generation was considered to be 40 years. Jesus was crucified in about AD 30. So, the generation that saw His crucifixion was there for the fall of Jerusalem. One thing to note is that Jewish worship was forever changed after the Temple was destroyed. Up to that point, their worship was centered on the sacrifices at the Temple. After the Temple was destroyed, sacrifices ceased and their worship was radically altered. This was the end of Judaism as it was known up to that point.

There are several good Catholic study Bibles which expand on the Scriptures and help you understand them in context. The Navarre Bible is good, so is the Ignatius Study Bible (although it is only for the New Testament so far). Also, one online study that I’ve found to be reliable is found here. Although it does not have all the books of the Bible, it does address Matthew. You might want to take a look.

Jesus was talking about the destruction of Jerusalem. For those in Jerusalem, it did feel like the end of the world. It happened less than 40 years after his death and resurrection.

Jesus has never “wrongly” done anything. I would think that is something that anyone who calls himself a Catholic would know.

I am positive that Jesus wouldn’t ever make a mistake about anything, ever, including the end of the world.
