Did John the Baptist get baptised?

Isn’t baptism the entrance to the title of being a child of God or is it not?

I go way back and have always heard about becoming a child of God through Baptism. This is because we share in His life because our soul is now filled with sanctifying grace.
Child of God is a marvelous, wonderful title.

Baptism (the Sacramental type…not the Repentance type) is for the NEW COVENANT…the New Testament… AFTER the Death and Resurrection …or THE REDEMPTION. Just as the souls of the Just were not in Heaven until Jesus descended to the Dead and opened the Gates of Heaven for them…so to SACRAMENTAL GRACE was NOT available to those who died BEFORE Christ’s Redemption… However, once Christ opened the Gates of Heaven …those who were Saved by the Law… were taken into Heaven… but it wasn’t BAPTISM that saved them. Therefore … John the Baptist did not NEED Baptism… neither did Our Blessed Mother…but they both were filled with the Holy Spirit and are in Heaven… but John the Baptist will receive the FULLNESS of Grace at the end of time… The Blessed Mother had the FULLNESS OF GRACE from her CONCEPTION.

As I watch John the Baptist move through the Gospels, there is no doubt in my mind. He is a child of God.

What may help solve this issue is that Jesus, God Himself, with absolute divine power, gave us the Sacrament of Baptism. But, Jesus, as God, is not necessarily bound by His Sacraments. We need to lift our eyes from the rubrics to the reality of Jesus loving John–the reality of God loving His child.

The New American Bible states John 1:14 as “And the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.”

This states that Jesus Christ is true God and true man.

Hi Granny D I “Think” I am correct in saying that in the time of John the Baptist, he and other great people were made saints by their recognised way of living of rightrousness and holiness. Tradition as we know it today ( i.e.waiting for miracles and deep research) had not been establisshed at that time. After all John the Baptist was beheaded even before Jesus died.
I believe that John was baptised by the meeting between Jesus in the womb of Mary and John in the womb of Elizabeth, and other Jewish ways of the time.
To get into Heaven you have to be Baptised and to be a recognised Saint as John is ( by nearlly all religions - not just Catholic) you surely would have been recognised as having been Baptised.
If there was ever a question about this the Church would have taken it up hundreds of years ago.
After all Jesus himself said in Mathew 14: 3-12 " No greater son of woman was John.ie the baptised
John was send especially to make straight the way of the Lord and he has 2 recognised feast days in the Catholic Church, one a couple of weeks ago,( 24 th June , his Feast Day ) and other for his death when he was beheaded, for his beliefs in the way of the Lord in taking on Herod ( which made him a martyr and soared to Heaven!)

The value in things like this thread, and the threads on the Assumption, is that now you can see why it is dangerous to throw around the “heresy” accusation and the “that’s not taught by the Catholic Church” accusation.

Probably about 90% of Catholics firmly believe things not “taught” by the Church.

And yet, here you are, entertaining the possibility that John the Baptist was somehow “baptized in the womb,” though there was no Church to be baptized into, and though Christ had not yet instituted the sacrament, and though Christ said that “even the least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than John.”

And what do you do at the same time? You infer that what I point to as Bible word pictures of Real Presence Doctrine are not “Catholic.”

This is really on the same subject: About two weeks ago, my wife became blastingly, knee-shakingly, lip-quiveringly angry at me when I spilled a little bleach on a bathroom throw-rug.

I warned her that whether she did worse was only a matter of luck, so that her anger was really anti-marriage, and she would understand my objection when I wouldn’t get angry at her doing worse.

Since then, my wife indelibly stained the toilet seat with hair color, spilled half-a-jug of bleach on the same rug, and tore-up the side of the car driving past a steel pole.

I was gentle in response.

I am, like everyone else on this forum, just trying to piece together what I have read, heard and thought about this subject. God is God…and God can do whatever God wants to do
God has revealed to us the necessity of Baptism and His Church has made known that there are Three Types of Baptism, Water, Blood and Desire. God however, is not limited, but we are limited to what we know and what God has revealed. In the case of John the Baptist …and aborted or miscarried babies … or children that have died without Baptism, we can only speculate. We know that John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit in the womb of St.Elizabeth when he encountered and acknowledge the Unborn Christ Child in the womb of Our Blessed Mother. We know that he preached a Baptism of repentance, which was a precursor to the Baptism which would be available after the Redemption and the Birth of The Church (the mystical body of Christ) We know he was killed because he preached the Word of God and pointed to Christ as The One to Come…The Savior of the World… this would make him a martyr… We know that the prophets of the O.T also suffered martyrdom, so I believe that since God is outside of time… all the graces offered through the Catholic Church can be APPLIED after death to those who were justified by The Law and by their innocence. These graces can be applied at anytime by God, but it would seem that at the end of time, we will witness His Mercy and His Justice in the distribution of graces to those who had little more will be added and to those who had much, but didn’t appreciate them… much will be taken away

OK. Maybe this will put to bed whether or not St. John was baptized. The Church teaching is that John was “born” immaculate while Mary was “conceived” immaculate. At the end of St. Mark’s gospel is something on St. John’s baptism. The question is whether John was baptized from heaven or from men, which Jesus asked of the chief priests, scribes and elders. As for St. John the Baptist’s rank in heaven, it is very high if you count being addressed in the confiteor at the beginning of Mass. Of course, if you attend the new mess, you would not know this.

Pray for the end of modernism and the return to sanctity of Holy Mother Church!
