Please try to understand, Zer, that it’s not aspiration; it’s aspiring. I’m not criticizing your method of belief in a derogatory way; i’m seeking to understand why i should adopt the same method myself.
That is not my method. I did not invent that method. It is the Lord’s method:
Matthew 7:
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Luke 11:
9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
I did not make that promise; the Lord did. If you have difficulty trustng the Lord, or exercising faith in Him, that is not my problem, is it?
I believe you and i have much in common, for i have many of the same convictions. We both have the testimony of the Holy Ghost that Jesus was God, but i also trust the external evidence that He proved He was God by raising Himself from the dead.
Actually, you don’t. You only have the testimony of what is said in the Bible. How do you know that is true? How do you know it is not a fabrication? The Jews believed, and still believe that it was fabricated by His disciples. How do you know they are not right? The answer is that you don’t. You are only trusting what is said in the Bible. The same story is told in the Book of Mormon. How do you know it is not true? You don’t, any more than you know that the Bible story is true. It is a matter of faith. You either accept it or you don’t.
We both have the testimony of the Holy Ghost that the Bible is true, but i also have the external evidence of scholarship that demonstrates the books of the Bible are reliable historical documents.
Actually, you don’t. There is no historical or archaeological evidence that the Israelites ever lived in Egypt. There is no evidence that the miracles of Moses ever happened. There is no evidence that the armies of the Egyptians were drowned in the Red sea. There is not evidence that they wondered in Sinai for 40 years. There is no evidence that they were fed with manna from heaven. There is no evidence that God spoke to Moses (and to all Israel) at Sinai, or that Mosses struck the rock and water came out to give them drink. There is no evidence that they conquered the Promised Land in the way in which they are said to have done. There are many historical details of the OT for which no external corroborative evidence exists. You accept them on faith, and assume that they are true. You don’t know that they are. The same thing applies to the Book of Mormon. We believe that the great historical landmarks of Central and South America belong to the Book of Mormon people; but a clear link between them and the Book of Mormon have not yet been established, because their language and culture have not yet been properly understood.
