Did Judas receive the Eucharist in the state of mortal sin at the Last Supper?

My non catholic, Christian wife had a question that I couldn’t answer

If judas had already planned on deceiving the lord and judas was in a state of mortal sin how could he take the Eucharist in tha last supper
