My wife recently heard on EWTN a teacher say that Mary died before she was assumed into heaven. Is this true or was she still alive when she was assumed, similar to Enoch, or Elijah?

The dogma of The Assumption states:
…the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.
Notice that the wording is ambiguous as to whether Mary died. It is thus permissible for Catholics to either believe that Mary died before being assumed into heaven or to believe that Mary did not die before being assumed into heaven. The Eastern Catholics and Orthodox celebrate The Dormition in which they believe they Mary died and was resurrected/assumed into heaven.
