Did my cousin steal from the house?

Every 2 weeks my cousin visits and last time she was down my mum’s watch went missing, we all searched the house top to bottom for it and we couldn’t find it.

My cousin came down today and we asked her about it and she said she hasn’t seen it, then after she went home we found the watch in mom’s bedroom under the bed.

Also my sister’s ring went missing and when we next saw our cousin she was wearing a ring exactly like it and when we questioned her about it she said her friend gave it to her.

So did my cousin steal or is it just a coincidence?

Sure looks like she might have a problem, based on what you’ve written here. I had that same experience - I bought a distinctive turquoise and silver ring on vacation, had a friend over, the ring went missing and next thing I know, the friend is wearing it! :mad: I confronted her and she denied it, made up some lame story.

When your cousin comes over, you shouldn’t leave her alone with any access to valuables. It’s a pretty bad sign when someone will steal from family members.

How old is your cousin, BTW?

OK, well, if she’s doing this, she’s got a problem. If she were 5 or 6, or even 8-12, it would still be a problem but more understandable. I imagine the adults in the household will be dealing with this problem.

Um… not to offend, but if you and your family, who are there and in the situation, can’t determine that fact, those of us getting the partial story online certainly aren’t going to be able to answer your question either…
 
No one can answer that for sure, but her or someone who actually sees her take something. If I were you I would hide the valuables when she comes to visit or make sure she is never alone while she is there.
 
Like other posters said, there’s no way for us to determine if your cousin is taking things from your family. But going by what you’re saying here, It would be prudent to make sure that someone is always keeping a close eye on her when she’s visiting.
 
If you want to see if she takes things, leave something in plain sight next time and see if it disappears.

Why are you asking us, as if we have any way of knowing! Very strange.

I don’t think he thinks we would actually know, but is asking what we thought because he wants to see if anyone here thinks the same way he and his family do.

Unfortunately, it sounds like she did steal. As others have said, I would not leave her alone for a minute. 😊

It does sound like shes stealing…cant your mother talk to her parents about it?
