why did not jesus get named emmanuel if that is what the prophect said it would be isa. 7:14???

Isaiah said that He’d be called “God with us”.

And He was called God with us.

We also call Him Emmanuel a lot of the time, especially at Christmas. 🙂

So Isaiah’s prophecy did come true.

well as Isaiah reads it looks like Mary was to name him emmaunel…isa. 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.

Did Mary name him emmanuel?

The RSV reads “”…and shall call **his name **Immanuel." That follows the Greek more closely.
The word translated into English as “name” can also be translated as “title; person; authority, power; status, category;”

The same Greek words occur elsewhere in the book of Isaiah. I think the passage in Isaiah 7:14 should be understood in the same sense as in Isaiah 9:6 - where the same Greek words are used by Isaiah as he again speaks/identifies/describes who the future Messiah will be.
Is 9:6 "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
