Did Paul change Jesus' teachings about wealth?

Hello!
In school we learnt about Christianity and as a practicing Catholic I was surprised that they say that Paul changed the teaching of Jesus concerning money issues. Their statement is that Jesus taught that when you become a Christian you have to give in all your money and property and live like that. They continue however that Paul changed this by letting rich people keep their stuff and told them to give money to the poor instead so that more people accept Jesus. I think this is a bad nearing of This topic but I would like an answer.
