Did Paul prophesize the end of miracles in Apostolic times?

I heard the end of a fundamentalist call-in show where they were finishing up a talk about miracles ending with the death of the last Apostle and then erroneously re-appearing with the petntecostal movement in the 1900s.

I missed the verse they used to claim that Paul said miracles would end. Does anyone know of such a verse?

No such verse. God has not stopped performing miracles at any point in the Church’s 2,000 year history

The verse that they try to use to justify this is in 1 Corinthians 13:8-10. What they twist around is the part the “when the perfect comes” they say this means the Bible and since the Bible is perfect, things such as prophecies, tongues etc will end. Of course this is NOT what the perfect comes means, it means when Jesus comes and is not reference to the Bible. This shows you that people will use the Bible to try and justify their thinking and theology.
These were the verses used against the early Charismatic movement in the 70’s. It show what a lack of knowledge and understanding they have about how the Bible came together and what the Catholic Church has taught through the years and the role of sacred tradition plays in our understanding. Miracles have not ended with the apostles.

8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of [a] prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.

And if you read the following passages…it goes full circle what the passage says…and intends to mean:

11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I [d]became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror [e]dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the [f]greatest of these is love.

What we are trying to say but NOT support is that they use the above mentioned verses from 1 Corth 13:8-10 and twist the meaning of what St. Paul said to use it to support their belief that miracles, gifts of the spirit etc ended with the apostles because the “perfect” bible is here. Again this IS NOT what St. Paul is saying, he is speaking about the 2nd coming of Christ who is perfect. Likewise, the cannon of scripture was not finalized at all with the death of the apostles, the cannon of scripture was finalized 300 years later. Likewise miracles and the gifts of the spirit DID NOT end with the apostles, they have continues since the time of the apostles. They may say or think and try to use this verse (and many others) to support their own unbiblical, non-historic, false views all the while saying they are true to the Bible.
That is why you and any Catholic should stay away from them to avoid being confused.

Yes, there are many. Jesus told them that these signs would follow his apostles and Jesus did not say they would end with their deaths. These signs have always and continues to following his disciples. For every saint there are 2 certified miracles and answers to prayers.
This stupid view denies history, is no where taught in the Bible. God still answers prayers with miracles.
