Did Pope Pius XII help Jews during WWII?

I heard somewhere that when Israel was official formed (1950’s), they invited Pope Pius XII to some “thank you” celebration for his effort in saving Jews in WW2. They even played his favorite song composed by some German. I can’t seem to find any reference to this anymore. Does anyone know? Please provide links.
