Did (s)he get the parent's permission?

marriage i a sacrement between 2 people, so i only asked the other person participating. i figured since in our faith the bride isnt ‘given’ away i had no need to ask for her.

somehow her catholic(small c intentional) parents disagree and it is a cuase of continual grief for me years later. still i havent/wont apologize for it and would do it the same if i had a mulliagn.
 
No, um yeah that would have gone well -not. We were crazy teenagers. I waited until he was hundreds of miles away in bootcamp to tell them. They reacted the way most sane parents would but in the end they came around and dad even gave me away. That was 18 years ago and they love my hubby very much now. In fact I’m pretty sure my mom likes my hubby better than she likes me ;).

Hubby’s original proposal was in my high school year book, but he also did the getting down on one knee thing too with a beautiful itty bitty diamond ring (all he could afford as a part time dishwasher in high school). There were two more proposals after that -we did fight quite a bit back then.😛

I love your story. I can picture the whole thing. I definetly didn’t have a high school sweetheart, but love the stories of those that did marry theirs and are still together strong…Take Care…

Not at all. I was just curious about other people’s experiences (and the answers were pretty much what I expected).
The only thing I want is for her (whoever she is) to say “yes.” I’ve got a long time before that day comes though! 🙂
