Did Satan Create Catholicism? Trump-Supporting Pastor Robert Jeffress Thinks So

I’m a Trump supporter when it comes to the political side of things, not religious. Trump couldn’t name a single verse out of the Bible when asked if he had a favorite verse. Stop treating him like he’s infallible and that he can do no wrong, and unfortunately, I see this attitude with way too many of my fellow Trump supporters. However, as already said, it doesn’t concern me that Trump is lacking in his knowledge of the Bible, I support him as a political leader, not as a religious leader.

I think you might be surprised on that one - very many of us who grew up in that type have testified that there was an intense pressure to have a good “public face” and that things were often not as they seemed in public.

What. I said he’s infallible? My point is that he probably read a chapter

As with his boasts of sexual assault, constant petty personal attacks on members of his own party, and every other immoral and/or stupid thing he’s done, his supporters will defend his every utterance. … any criticism of him and you’re utterly condemned on this forum as a despised “Leftist” (who by default is pro-abortion etc of course because Trump and Trump alone is God’s anointed saviour of the unborn…).
The reality is, his words do matter. He endorsed a pastor who has horrendous bigoted views. His supporters shrug and move on.
Thankfully the US Catholic Bishops oppose Trump on a score of issues. As they should.
Trump supporters, like Trump himself, are incapable of saying these words “I support him but he screwed up.”

A fundamentalist Southern Baptist Protestant Christian preacher preaching anti-Catholicism? Well, imagine my shock!

Remember, anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice in America.

Anti-Catholic misinformation, lies, bigotry and hatred have existed since the dawn of Protestantism - it’s just an old form of Xenophobia amongst Americans, and it’s still a key component of hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) - nothing new under the sun.

A lot of what he has said isn’t defensible. Yes, there’s a problem with his hard-core supporters who will support him I guess no matter what.

But the intention here is to divide evangelicals and Catholics. The left does this hogwash ALL the time.

Sadly, you seem to have fallen for it.
Thankfully the US Catholic Bishops oppose Trump on a score of issues.
Such as…

So clearly this article has accomplished its purpose here on Catholic Answers Forums:

Get the left a feel-good excuse to come after Donald Trump, and I guess support other politicians for selfish reasons (like muh friends feelings) who advocate extreme anti-life, anti-child, anti-poor and anti-Catholic policies.

Because you all “care” so much for the Church. 😂🤣

Unfortunately, many pastors, not just Southern Baptist, feel the same way he does. He and they definitely need prayer.

No but I believe he created the “spirit of Vatican II” and is responsible for all the craziness that happened in the wake of Vatican II. As Paul VI said, the smoke of Satan entered the Church. And recall what Our Lord said about the sheep and goats.

It is important. Trump endorsed this pastor’s book.
I think that’s just an official excuse to bring it up, though. Just look at how derailed the thread has gotten because his name was mentioned. Division, to me, seems to be the point of their mentioning it.

Well if we look way back, this all began because Satan introduced sin into the world. He tempted Adam and Eve into disobeying God, causing the fall of Man. So without Satan there’s no fallen state, no sin, and as a consequence no reason for Jesus to suffer and die (something he did so our sins can be forgiven - which we wouldn’t need if we were without sin to begin with).

It’s easy to forget that they way things are now isn’t the way things are supposed to be. Everything God did in the bible after the fall of man has been his efforts to remedy said fall.

Fair enough.
Regarding the bishops, they’ve expressed concerns on certain proposals related to immigration, treatment of illegal immigrants, health care, environmental stuff…

That’s the USCCB doesn’t do its homework on the issues. They are almost always wrong on these issues, and it’s why I have stopped all of my financial contributions to the Catholic Church.

It’s also why a lot of people have turned away from the Catholic Church.

It’s a precept of the Church to support her materially according to your means. Political disagreement with certain bishops is relatively trivial compared to the big picture of our spiritual lives, no?

I for one still support the Church financially because my parish needs the money if nothing else. It’s kinda like paying your taxes even though the government will literally never do the right thing all the time. A broken government, though I repeat myself, is better than none at all.

Is helping fund an episcopal conference that keeps making iffy pronouncements on things that aren’t yet clearly defined (the death penalty, the role of government in society, net neutrality for some reason) not the best of options? Yes. Is defunding the Church in general even worse? Definitely.

An evangelical pastor and President Donald Trump supporter says Catholicism is a “cult-like pagan religion” and the success of the religion is due to “the genius of Satan.”

Dr. Robert Jeffress, a Southern Baptist pastor, says that the Roman Catholic Church is the result of the Babylonian cult system founded by the Book of Revelation
in a video posted on YouTube by RWW Blog.
He’s got a PhD?.

For those who don’t know Baptist history,
John Smyth invented the Baptist religion in 1600. Not Jesus, Not any apostle, but the heretic John Smyth.

Re: Satan

In Paul’s letter to the Church of Rome, he had this warning
Rom 16:
17 I appeal to you, brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions and difficulties, in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them. 18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites,[a] and by fair and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded. 19 For while your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I would have you wise as to what is good and guileless as to what is evil; 20 then the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.

The consequences for those who divide and dissent from the Church Jesus established, the Catholic Church

Gal 5:
19 Now the works of the flesh are plain: immorality, impurity, licentiousness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

See the words in both selections Romans and Galatians, (dissension ) some translations use division as well. The Greek word is the same in both selections. From the Greek NT, is [διχοστασίαι,] http://bibleapps.com/greek/1370.htm …… And the consequence for that sin? Paul says “I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God”. IOW they go to hell when they die.

Everyone divided from the Catholic Church ought to take note.

Wouldn’t Catholics care that Trump is promoting this man’s book, which promotes the belief that Satan created Catholicism?
It’s Trump who tweeted about this and then the news media–including the RIGHT-wing ones–reported it. He is the one who wants to give the book PR, knowing full well he has 41 million Twitter followers who will see him showcasing it.
What does this have to do with Yahoo?
Melania his wife, is Catholic. I don’t know if she is a practicing Catholic, but if she is, I suspect she would / will have something to say to him about that statement. Assuming Trump really made that connection before the tweet.

I suspect Trump has heard from many Catholics by now, assuming what he has been reported to say, is what he said and meant.

That said,
To that Baptist’s comment, here is an important historical point. John Henry Newman, (b 21 February 1801 – d 11 August 1890 ) while still a Protestant, (an Anglican priest to be exact), and regarding history, Newman made famous the following quote. “To be deep in history is to cease being a Protestant” To reshape that quote, to be deep in history is to be Catholic. Newman saw it. He couldn’t deny it. He did his homework. It’s history… i.e. it’s HIS STORY our Lord’s story, 🤟😃., ergo That’s why he converted to the Catholic Church.

I find it humorous that the pastor’s supporting President Donald Trump is considered an important detail by this person.
Bashing Trump is the purpose of the thread, not Jeffries or what he thinks.

Imagine the anger if Hillary endorsed a book bashing Catholics.
Well, the DNC did it directly, and the Dems just pretend it didn’t.

And as little as I care for Jeffires, at least he hasn’t tried to use federal force to make Catholic sisters pay for abortifacients like Obama did.
