No problem.

I just want you to know I am not struggling with the document itself. I understand what the document is saying. I’m just struggling to see why you believe a document that is clearly addressing the hierarchy of a Metropolitan area should be read to apply to the hierarchy of the entire Church and the Pope?

Thanks,

God Bless
I guess I’m struggling to understand why you dont see that canon 6 clearly sets Rome and Alexandria and the others as equals, but since I’m not clearly articulating this,

Thanks for the article it was very interesting. I guess it just points to the fact that history is based on which view points you want to emphasis.

Take for instance this article which approaches things from the opposite angle.

http://www.rtforum.org/lt/lt29.html

In the end I guess it comes down to our conscious picking which side we want to defend.

For me I fully accept I have no authority to affirm which side is right and which side is wrong. I find it best to place my faith in Christ who said…
on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

And Also the prophesy of Malichi

11 For from the rising of the sun even to the going down, my name is great among the Gentiles, and in every place there is sacrifice, and there is offered to my name a clean oblation: for my name is great among the Gentiles, saith the Lord of hosts.
A simple google search of the Catholic and EO Churches shows that only the Catholic Church has been able to obey Jesus command and fulfill Malachi’s prophesy by going to all nations and offering a perfect sacrifice from east to west in every place.

To me if the Catholic Church is so wrong why is the Holy Spirit spreading Her belief in the authority of the Pope to every nation?

This is crazy ! If every word out of the apostles (which I believe is a true statement) is not infallible, then how do we know if what is told to be infallible is actually infallible?

This is crazy !
Why would you think it would be crazy?

Like I said it depends on how you define oral teaching. What would be your definition of an oral teaching?

If you are limiting the Apostles oral teachings to what is written in the Bible then yep I agree everyone of their oral teachings that made it into the Bible were infallible.

I do not put this limitation on the Apostles lives. To think everything they said was infallible would be crazy in my book. I am sure their are many more things that are not in the Bible that the Apostles taught.

Many of these men had families, do you believe when they taught their children certain things they were teaching infallible?

How about when they were teaching something we proclaim to be infallible. Then afterwards someone comes up to them as says I don’t understand. If they said well think about it this way, is this different way of them thinking about the original infallible teaching also infallible?

I understand the original wording here says “ORAL” teaching. However, it is possible to teach by your actions without using words and both St. Peter and St. Paul weren’t acting to infallibly when they weren’t living up to their own oral infallible teachings.
If every word out of the apostles (which I believe is a true statement) is not infallible, then how do we know if what is told to be infallible is actually infallible?
We have no way of knowing this on our own. The definition of infallible is to be incapable of making a mistake or being wrong. The Bible is not infallible. It can’t be it’s just a book with words on a page. These words make no decisions on their own. Someone has to read these words and interpret their meaning. At which point this persons meaning of these words would be fallible or infallible. Thank goodness Jesus left us a Church to interpret the Infallible words of the Apostles so we may know what the Apostles infallible taught and we to may be guided to the truth.

Here I can actually advise you to read James White’s book on the very subject. You may even learn something from him 😃
