Since Jesus and the BVM always followed Jewish customs, did she have to purify herself after washing the body of Jesus before He was placed in the tomb?

Wasn’t it cut short because it was Friday evening and time to stop for the Sabbath?

And then they went to do things for the body on Sunday morning…

Probably not, because it happened after His death, and that’s when the Old Covenant was fulfilled.

Would she have refused to purify herself? She was an observant Jew.

There is a “washing stone” inside the Holy Sepulcher Church in Jerusalem that was supposed to be the stone where Jesus was laid while His mother washed His body. I understand it was moved to inside the church so it wouldn’t be vandalized.

That’s what my son said to me but he said I do have a valid point.

Well, I think she would have still observed the Old Covenant prior to the Resurrection.

If so, then I suppose she would have followed the Jewish regulations, which I’m not quite sure about.

Of course I could be wrong.

Your question and concern is theological and not canonical…accept either possibility and be at peace!

Remember that the first Christians were observant Jews who observed the Sabbath as well as celebrating Mass on Sundays. As we can see Acts of the Apostles, chapter 15, that even something like circumcision was still practiced and there was disagreement about whether someone who was uncircumcised could be a Christian.

I don’t see how my point ad your point reconcile. Remember how the veil was torn? That symbolized that the covenant had been fulfilled and that we had access to God in a different way. Thus, the customary and dietary laws were fulfilled, and they were not necessary to carry out. In fact, as St. Thomas Aquinas says, it became a mortal sin to do those things after the death of Jesus had taken place.

I was responding to Zaccheus that the BVM was an observant Jew.

Could we use a name rather then an acronym. Its more respectful 🕊️

I believe the Blessed Virgin Mary would have observed the fullness of Jewish Law at the time. And to be honest, with the way Jesus was killed, there would be a lot of precious blood spilt.
