God could never turn his back on mankind in the sense that he can never stop loving the creatures that he created out of love, for love and in love.

The devil probably [and I this is my opinion and does not necessarily represent the Church’s though I hope that it would.] wanted to kill Jesus becuase he hates all men, who are created in God’s image, but even more so the Son of God.

I am not sure if the devil knew who Jesus was when the Crucifixtion happend, I guess that’s another topic for another thread.

I will be reading this thread with interest.

God bless.

How so? As in did he want Jesus to be crucified or did he want to kill Jesus in another way? I don’t think that he wanted Jesus to be crucified and conquer death for our salvation, if that is what you mean.

It is confusing as to which post you are replying to, I am not sure if you are replying to the OP or not.

No of course this is not what I meant. He would destroy all manking if God permitted him, why would Satan want to be any different in wanting to kill Jesus.

And I purposely left it open by not even mentioning as to how Satan would want to kill Jesus, that is open speculation and I cringe from those things.

God bless.

Sorry. I was referring to the OP. I didn’t see your post before I posted. 🙂

What I was asking is what the OP meant by “did Satan want to kill Jesus.” Does the OP mean, for example, did Satan want to kill Jesus as a child or in a similar circumstance? I would say he would have if he could have.

Probably Satan wanted to know who Jesus really is, so Satan offered Jesus the three tests (hanger, the angels, and earthy kingdoms) to understand and discover Him.

After that I think Satan wondered what the Son of God is doing here on earth, so maybe he started monitoring Jesus and at the same time he tried to avoid Him like the demons in Matthew 8:29.

In my opinion Satan did not know GOD’s plan for salvation till after Jesus was crucified, once he knew that from Jesus’ disciples Satan started fighting Christianity in all his efforts, and one of these efforts is establishing false religions claiming that it’s from GOD while at the same time denying the salvation plan “the crucifixion” (like Islam).

Ahhh okay, cuz I was wondering. That’s why I asked.

I would venture a reply to your question. Who do you think was behind King Herod’s decision to kill all baby boys 2 years and under? I would guess that maybe Satan had something to do with it, but that is my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the teaching of the Church.

God bless.

I completely agree. Especially when you consider his reasoning for doing so. I either believe Satan played a role in him as he did in Judas, or he didn’t even need to because of Herod’s own morality.

Ahhh yes Judas. You see I learned only recently that Judas was possessed at one point or another. When it said that the Devil entered into Judas after the Last Supper and he left. I always felt sorrow for Judas, and I know that some people will think me strange, but I have always hoped that in the last seconds before he died he repented. We will never know on this side of eternity though.

God bless.

To clear up the original question and thoughts …

It could be thought that if the Devil managed to persuade Man to kill the incarnation of God then this may have caused a permanent rift between Man and God like his persuasion in the garden of Eden with the apple.

Instead of course we know the reaction was the opposite and part of God’s plan for salvation.

But did the Devil think his actions would cause a further rift and that is why he persuaded men to kill Jesus?

Any and all thoughts, Thanks.
