Did the Holy Spirit really come down as a Dove or was that a Symbol?

Scripture say’s Yes the Holy Spirit did Come down as a “Dove” read the Bible verses below:

Luke 3:22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like …
… The Holy Spirit came down in the form of a dove, and a voice came from heaven, saying, You are my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased. …

John 1:32 Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come …
… Then John testified, "I saw the Holy Spirit descending
like a dove from heaven and resting upon him. …

Mark 1:10 As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven …
… As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart
and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove. …

My point is, now if the Holy Spirit came down as a “Dove” Why don’t many Protestant believe that Jesus Christ can come in the Form of The Bread/The Body of Christ 100% and the Wine/Blood of Christ 100% (The Most Holy Eucharist) that we must eat and drink for our salvation?

Now if you believe that the Holy Spirit came down as a DOVE, then you must or I should say you have to believe in the below bible verses that it is truly the Body and Blood of Christ. Read the Bible verses below:

John 6:54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal …
… Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and
I will bring them back to life on the last day. …

People remember if the Holy Spirit came down as a DOVE, Jesus does come to us in the Bread and Wine.

John 6:56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me …
… Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in me, and I live in them. … …

Yes people you must eat His Flesh and Drink His Blood if you want to be saved!

John 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If …
… I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread,
he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I …

Now if you think the bread and Juice that you drink at your church is only a symbol, you have that will/right to believe that, but then again, a Symbol can not save Only the Real Body and Blood can and that is Jesus Christ in The Most Holy EUCHARIST!

The Holy Spirit came as a Dove… Jesus comes to us as Bread/ Body and Wine/Blood that we must Eat and Drink to be saved. Amen

Yes, dove may be a metaphor there, but still it really happened. The Holy Spirit really did descend on Jesus when He was baptized, and spoke to Jesus and John at least, and perhaps others.

Unlike some other Protestants, I do believe in the Real Presence in a mystical/spiritual sense. The Eucharist is IMHO not merely commemorative, but Jesus is actually spiritually present. However, I don’t believe the bread and wine are physically transformed. Nor do I believe the Real Presence happens only in Catholic and Orthodox churches. I’m sure it happens in my Assemblies of God church, and in countless other Protestant churches as well. And I believe it happened for a group of missionaries in the Amazon rainforest who celebrated the Lord’s Supper with Coca-Cola and potato chips, because that was all they had.

Besides a dove, the Holy Spirit has come to us as Wind and Tongues of Fire…ecstasy in mystical unions with God…In Exodus Moses saw 3 men approaching him and some say those 3 men symbolize the Holy Trinity…not for sure on the last point…

But Holy Spirit comes to us mostly in the form of Spirit and His fruits – fidelity to the teaching of Christ and help of the Apostles and life of the Church, the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit…working through us.

I think the usual translation is that the Spirit descended “like” a dove. It’s difficult to know exactly what that means but it neither requires nor prohibits a physical manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

Iz, your avatar is great and most appropriate for this thread. I wanted to find a tie like that for Pentecost.

Anyway, since your definition of Real Presence is decidedly different than Catholic teaching on the matter, it most certainly does happen in the cases you described. However, this was not because they were celebrating the “Lord’s Supper.”
