Kiss the Q’uran? John Paul I mean?

In the Islam thread you can look through below, one poster says he/she converted to Islam and believes it may be the one faith that “brings everyone together” and that it may be happening now. So, I thought to do a little research on this theory and found:

jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/005721.php

The author talks of the Pope kissing their Holy Book. Because of this, muslims (or at least some) view this as a sign that Christians will join their side when we understand “our differences”. Then they go on and pray that the next Pope (current Pope) has the “veil” lifted from his eyes and comes to their correct faith with Christains.

I mean, the muslims actually believe this - that we will just kind of see the light and join up.

I am just surprised that PJP would really kiss another religion’s holy book - even if it was out of respect. Don’t get me wrong, I love PJP - in fact, I named my son after him.

Yes, unfortunately it’s true.

I highly admire JP II, but it wasn’t one of his better moments.

Good intentions, but we know what road is paved with them.

Incidently, by kissing it, he was breaking Muslim law: non-Muslim are ritually impure and aren’t supposed to touch it.

But then he was a fallible human.

No, he didn’t convert to Islam. That’s just nonsense.

Every time I see my Muslim friends, I kiss them. It is a sign of friendship.

Maybe JPII kissed the qu’ran to show respect and friendship towards Muslims.🙂

It could also be said that the Pope was following the teachings of St Paul, who says to greet each other with a holy kiss;
“Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ send you their greetings.” Ro. 16:16
“All the brothers here send greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.” 1 Co. 16:20
“Greet one another with a holy kiss. All of God’s people send you their greetings.” 2 Co. 13:12
“Greet all believers with a holy kiss.” 1 Th. 5:26

St Peter has said: “Greet one another with the ***kiss ***of Christian love. May peace be with all of you who belong to Christ” (1 P 5:14).

It WAS the qu’ran that was kissed!!

I’m not convinced anybody would convert to Islam because they were inspired by the Pope… it’s almost a contradiction.

Yeppers! Shocking isn’t it boys n gals!!! O dear! I hear he actually kissed his mother when he was a child too! Kissed the ground quite often as well! My how the Spirit moves a man!

Blessed be God forever in (the soon to be Saint) John Paul II! may his glories soon ring out from Rome!

Peace,

Gail

I am unsubscribing from this thread. When people cannot discuss graciously and resort to irony I lose interest. Ciao:p :tiphat:

If only the Spirit ever moved a man to kiss a book which denied the deity of the Son of God and calls His people pagans and polytheists. I am sure his mother never said any of those things.

I know that the Pope is considered Christ’s representative here on earth. Is that only when he is speaking infallibly?

I ask this because I find it impossible to imagine Jesus Christ kissing the Qu’ran or any “holy book” of a false religion.

Wait. I thought that he kissed a book that was hyped by media reports to be the Koran. He is pictured kissing a book, what that book is, though (it has even been reported that it is the Bible in Arabic), we don’t know.

What an odd post.

I hardly think that a young boy kissing his mother is the same as the Pope kissing a so-called “holy book” who’s author is the Devil?

I agree - not one of his finer moments.

This was presented to him by a sheik from Iraq. The Arabic mark on the back says “Qu’ran”

And this prove what? So what if he kissed the Quran? Did he made a profession of faith that the Quran is the infallible word of God? Nope.

No, but it can confirm them in it, and has already caused immense problems for the Christians (whether in communion with the Vatican or not) among the Muslims.

Oi! This saw has been played to death. Give it a rest.

Peace,

Gail
