Did the pope say he was equal to god

Rosie: I believe it was Pope St. John Paul II who called himself, “the servant of the servants of God.” He was saying the pope is the servant of the bishops who are servants of God. I really can’t see how considering oneself a servant equating oneself with God. And I think all the subsequent popes have pretty much considered themselves the same thing.

Sure. One of the first rules is “remember the source”. One of the second rules is “words have meaning”. So it’s much more informative if someone posts the context of the stuff that worries them, and then asks a question, rather than saying, “I’m worried because someone says ~blah ~” and people are like, “Who?” and “What exactly were they talking about?” and “What gave them that idea?” and “How did they come to that conclusion?”

If someone just says, “The Pope is making himself equal to God!’”, and that’s it, then it’s easy to ignore, because it’s an unsubstantiated claim.

If someone says, “The Pope is making himself equal to God when he says ~blah~”, then it’s an opportunity to learn something— as to what is meant by ~blah~, or under what circumstances ~blah~ is appropriate, or how there’s a historical/theological basis for ~blah~. So that when you run into the argument in the future, you’re better able to combat it, rather than the conversation being-- “The pope is making himself equal to God!” “No he isn’t!” “Yes he is!” etc. 😛

Oh for Heaven’s sake. You can’t honestly believe this. What is going on here? I am beginning to suspect there is an ulterior motive behind all these threads you start concerning horror stories in the Church.
 
no, the Pope would never say this. its media sensationalism from Pope haters.

is an opinion , not a statement of the Pope himself. 🙂
