Did the Popes really claim to be God on earth?

Please forgive the observation, and this is absolutely NOT meant as criticism, but if I got disturbed or confused by every odd ‘fact’ or statement I encountered, I would be in a mental ward somewhere. I am not a tabula rasa that gives everything I hear or read the benefit of the doubt. Fully 99% of the ‘news’ and information I encounter daily is vicious nonsense, and I must exercise prudential judgment in deciding what to believe and what to discard. Personally, I’ve a rule of thumb, rightly or wrongly, when I hear or read something I’ve not heard nor read previously: If it so outrageous that it beggars credulity, most likely it is false and not worth my attention.

my concern is for others… I’m from the Philippines, the only Catholic-dominated country in Asia and also has the largest number of social media users in the world. there are lots of religious sects that just popped out and deceiving weak Catholics with those kind of posts. and as Catholic I won’t let them be deceived but help them understand the real teachings of the Church.

Ah, I understand. Different culture than what folks have in America.

Here we aren’t a majority Catholic country so to be Catholic we have to actually know a little bit about the faith otherwise we could lose that faith. That creates a bit more of a thick skin. But I can see where in a nation such as the Philippines where people are Catholic but many probably only “culturally” Catholic, this kind of disinformation could be an issue.

Different cultures, different problems.

yeah you’re right, biggest factor also is our president, he even got to insult priests and nuns and question the truth about creation and how original sin was formed. that’s why the “culturally” Catholics even doubted their own faith and non-Catholic sects gained more confidence in persecuting the Catholic Faith and beliefs. And it is very alarming now for our country. and for the whole Church because even the Vatican was gravely insulted by the people and the president in almost all of his speeches.

No.

The Pope is a human being with a direct line to God where he can speak infallibly about religious matters if he says he is speaking from the Chair.

I don’t love it when one Christian tries to make another Christian, a Catholic, Christian. This isn’t what Christ wanted.

Could also be because he is called the Holy Father and Jesus said to pray Our Father? Let’s hope we aren’t accused by other Christians to be cannibals because we believe the we are consuming the body, blood, soul and divinity of Our Lord. Who knows what is in the minds of non catholic christians?

I’ve heard about your president. Nasty piece of work. The Philippines have been one of the two stalwart countries of Catholicity throughout the centuries along with Ireland (you might count Poland as well). We all need to pray.
