Did the reformers claim to be inspired?

I was just wondering if any of the protestant reformers or any of those that broke away from the Catholic Church, claimed to be inspired by The Holy Spirit when they made their changes and challenges to the Catholic Church’s teachings?

I believe they were inspired by the holy spirit. I know I felt the Holy spirits tug to leave the catholic church.

I’m not sure what you mean by inspired. I’m sure they all felt that God commanded them to leave through the leading of the Spirit of God by illuminating the Scriptures.

Do you think God the Holy Spirit confirmed this tugging to leave the Roman Catholic Church by the Holy Scriptures?

Really, are you pulling my leg in regards to October 31? Does anybody know why October 31 is a day to celebrate? It is related to the OP. 🙂

October 31 celebrates the day that the Reformation in Europe began, with Martin Luther posting his 95 theses onto the church door. Perhaps Luther found it fitting to use an ancient Celtic (pagan) holiday for this act.🙂

They may have been Inspired, but they were certainly NOT inerrant.
 
Ok, so the Catholic Church claims that The Holy Spirit willl not allow the gates of hell to prevail against it and it is under the protection of the This Spirit till the end of time.

AND - This same Holy Spirit inspired Luther et al through the illumination of the Sacred Scriptures to break away from the Catholic Church and deny some of it’s central teachings. (forgive me because I’m new to this so I’m not sure what these are but they would seem from what I’ve gleaned so far to be around confession to a priest, whether Christ is really present in the Eucharist, the Pope as the head of the church, and others).

So there’s something wrong there isn’t there. The Holy Spirit wouldn’t contract itself would it?

And why would the Holy Spirit wait 1500 years to correct the teachings of the priests and monks when the Holy Spirit was charged by Christ to protect his church and never let the gates of hell prevail against it?

For being new at this, you are good at it. Maybe you are an elect of God without even knowing it. God has a remnant all throughout history. Therefore, the Holy Spirit had His remnant throughout all of the New Testament history as well. Did the remnant of God stay within the 16th Century Roman Catholic Church, or did God call out His remnant from the 16th Century Roman Catholic Church?

IF the Holy Spirit was protecting the Catholic Church up to and including the 16th century, then for God to call out His protective Spirit, would be tantamount to admitting to having made a mistake, and being wrong over the previous 1500 years wouldn’t it? Which surely can’t be correct - or am I not understanding the question (which is very likely 😊 ).

False teaching within the church is a very major theme throughout the bible including the New Testament. If you remove the false teaching aspect from the New Testament, it would shrink the contents significantly.

Are you saying that the New Testament contains false teaching? If I read you correctly then how can the New Testament be the inspired word of God and yet contain false teaching???

(thank you in advance for your patience if I read you wrongly and misunderstood what you are saying - as I said, I’m new to these type of discussions)
 
I just reread that - I think you mean if you remove all the parts of the NT that refer to writings about being aware of false teaching!! Not that the NT contains false teaching (even I know thats plain wrong 😊 )I get it now. Sorry for misunderstanding you.
