If Mary was born free from original sin and its effects then why is there any controversy regarding her death?
In Munificentissimus Deus, Pope Pius XII, declares the dogma of the Assumption of Mary yet leaves the question of whether the Virgin Mary died open.
It would seem that since death is the consequence of original sin, and Mary was immaculately conceived then it is reasonable to conclude that as a matter of dogma she did not die.
