When fasting before Communion, I sometimes have a drink of water ONLY because of the dryness here. However, my daugher offered me a drink of Vitamin Water before Communion in error but she thought it was o.k, was still water,(she is no longer Catholic). I took a small drank without thinking but then had to decide just before Communion whether it would keep me from receiving Communion. I decided the vitamin(s) in the water would no doubt be considered as medication, for example, and not as FOOD, so I thought it would be acceptable to receive Communion, which I did. However, now I am reconsidering and would like the opinion of a Catholic priest, if it was wrong of me, and/or if I even should confess, even though I never felt I was doing wrong when taking the Host. I am 81 years old and usually attend Mass on my own. My daughter only took me this time because of the bad roads.

Hi,

I don’t see any sin here. You are correct in considering vitamins as medication.
