Did this invalidate my confession?

I have a question regarding my experience in the confessional yesterday. I confessed all of my sins, and afterwards the priest caught me off guard with a few clarification questions. He questioned me about one of my sins (that I have stopped speaking to few people), and asked me if I was not reconciled with this people. Honestly, even though I felt sorry for this sin, I had not given much thought to reconciliation. So, I said it was my friend (even though it was more like 2 friends), and told him I was trying to reconcile with this “friend”, even though I had not earlier. As soon as that slipped out of my mouth, I realized that that was what I was going to do, but had not earlier. I am a very scrupulous person, so would this have invalidated my confession even though I truthfully confessed ALL of my mortal sins? Thanks and God Bless.

People who are scrupulous carry an extremely heavy burden. The internet is not the place to ask these questions; they should be asked of your confessor; and if he is not aware, you should make him aware that you have this problem. And if he is not particularly strong in working with people who have this problem, you should ask for a referral and then stick with that priest like glue, and avoid asking questions concerning the sinfulness of something, or the validity of the sacrament.

I could not agree more. Do not ask scrupulosity questions of strangers on the internet or you will just get more confused. Find a good confessor and trust him and trust in the Sacraments that Christ created for us. God is not trying to trick you or make you nervous or anxious.

If the priest felt you were concealing something or not expressing remorse, he would have refused absolution. Since he did not, you should not be concerned about the validity of your confession. However, you need to be concerned about scrupulosity. Why not go back to the same priest and discuss this concern of yours. If he assures you of your forgiveness, do not doubt but trust in God’s mercy. God bless you.

God knows and forgives all your sins even if you haven’t voiced them. If you conceal them, that’s another story. Trust in God and in His Infinite Mercy. God Bless you.👍
