Did you ask/receive a sign that he/she is the one?

PS - I had never asked for that. But I knew in my heart the message was from God. When I shared with my family then I started hearing their stories too.

I just knew about my husband. He would say the same about me. I’m sure I can call him my “soul mate”. For two decades we had so many close calls to meet each other but it didn’t happen until we were both ready. I believe that God truly knew we would be together (He has a plan for us, and we can’t say what it is until it reveals itself), and he let it happen as it should have- when we were ready. We both had to go through certain experiences to appreciate one another and the idea of marriage, children, faith, devotion to our spouses. He is meant for me, and I am meant for him, and God knew it, and he brought us together, no question about it.

Thank you for the advice so far. I went to a few local jewelers today; also went to Costco. I like one of them so far, and their price was the most reasonable. For those who are knowledgeable about diamonds, do you think this is a good deal?
  • Size: 1 carat (center diamond)
  • Shape: Round Brilliant
  • Setting: 3 stone, white gold, 0.33 carats (side stones)
  • Color: G
  • Clarity: SI1
  • Cut: Not sure; going to call them on Monday to find out. Assuming “Very Good” or “Good”
  • Certification: GIA (Gemological Institute of America)
  • Price: $6400 (diamond & setting)
Thank you in advance!

Do you know if your girlfriend would be ok with a moissanite, or white sapphire instead of a diamond? They look fairly similar (yes they are still not the same, but they are all beautiful, I actually think I prefer the other two, the white sapphire for being so pure and colourless (it tends not to have flashes of colour), and the moissanite for the extent of colour it has (again, in flashes of colour), heck, there’s even high quality CZ out there that can pass as diamond if you can’t afford the real thing) but the price difference is massive. I know I was horrified at the thought of my now husband spending thousands of dollars on a ring when we had student loans to pay off, so I asked him not to get a diamond and had him look into cheaper alternatives. We will very likely one day upgrade further, but my ring is beautiful and a fraction of the cost it would have been with diamonds. If it is something your GF would be ok or interested in I would seriously consider alternatives, put the money you save on loans, savings for a downpayment or for kids college funds, there are so many better things to spend that kind of money on than a piece of jewelry. But, in the end, it really depends on your GF and whether she is the kind of person who is determined to have a beautiful diamond (and there is nothing wrong with that, but if that is the case getting her some other form of an engagement ring is likely to fall flat…) But its something to seriously think about, if she’s like me and totally happy without a “real” diamond engagement ring you could get a huge head start on other important financial projects. Just something to think about.

Oops, posted this to the wrong thread. Gonna repost to the other thread on buying an engagement ring.

When you feel like you can’t live without them, that’s a pretty good sign. 😃
I was nearly instantly in love with my husband as soon as we met, and the feeling was mutual. We were simply smitten, there’s no other word for it.
We also came from the South (met in NY), had the same interests, loved talking, shared a common religious background, and wanted a large family.
This year we will celebrate 28 years!
